World population/Cookie Policy
Cookie Policy
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store, so that information can be recalled on a later request. Related technologies, including local storage, session storage, and pixel tags, do a similar job by different means. This policy covers all of them.
Live Population Clock sets no cookies of its own. The counter on this page does not need to remember you between visits. It reads a single static data file and does the arithmetic in your browser, so there is no state worth storing and nothing we need to identify you by.
The region filters, the search box and the sort order are held in memory for as long as the page is open and are forgotten the moment you close the tab. None of that is written to your device.
Cookies are however set by the advertising service used on this site. Google Ad Manager, together with the advertising partners it works with, may store identifiers in your browser to select advertisements, to limit how often you see the same advertisement, and to measure whether an advertisement was viewed.
These advertising cookies are set by Google's domains rather than ours. We cannot read them, we cannot modify them, and we cannot delete them on your behalf. Their names, contents, and lifetimes are determined by Google and change from time to time without reference to us.
Depending on your location, you may be shown a consent prompt before personalised advertising is enabled. That prompt is supplied and recorded by Google. If you decline, Google may still serve advertisements, but on a contextual rather than personalised basis, and may still set cookies that are strictly necessary for fraud prevention and frequency control.
This page also loads a web font from Google Fonts. Font requests are not used for advertising and do not set advertising cookies, but the request does reach a Google server and carries the ordinary technical information any web request carries.
Every current browser lets you view stored cookies, delete them individually or in bulk, block third party cookies as a class, and clear everything when you close the window. These controls sit in the privacy or content settings section of your browser.
Blocking cookies will not stop the population counter from working. The figures, the country table, the sorting, the filters and the search all run without any stored state. Blocking may affect which advertisements appear, or whether advertisements appear at all.
Browsers may also send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. Support for these signals varies between advertising vendors and between jurisdictions, and we cannot guarantee how a given signal will be interpreted by a third party serving advertisements on this page.
We do not use cookies to build advertising audiences of our own, we do not participate in cross site tracking arrangements outside the advertising service described here, and we do not share visitor lists with anyone, because we do not maintain any.
If a future change to this site introduces cookies set by us directly, this policy will be updated to describe them, what they are for, and how long they last, before those cookies are used.
