    Where this number comes from

Every figure on this page comes from World Population Prospects 2024, the United Nations Population Division's assessment of population for 237 countries and areas. It is the medium variant, which is the projection the UN treats as its central case and the one almost every published population clock runs on.

The UN builds it from national census rounds, civil registration of births and deaths, and nationally representative surveys, then models forward. It is revised every few years as new census data arrives, and this page picks up each revision automatically.

It is an estimate, not a headcount. Census coverage, registration completeness and migration measurement vary enormously between countries, so the uncertainty underneath a figure like this is measured in tens of millions rather than in people.

Nobody is counting in real time

No organisation counts the world population as it happens. There is no live feed of births and deaths, and there never has been. Every population clock on the internet, this one included, takes published annual reference points and moves smoothly between them. Worldometer works this way, the US Census Bureau clock works this way, and so does this one.

The United Nations publishes a figure for 1 July of each year. This page takes the figure for 1 July 2026 and the figure for 1 July 2027 and works out where between them the current moment falls. The seconds ticking past are arithmetic, not observation.

That is worth knowing before you quote any of these numbers. The broad shape is reliable, the trend is reliable, and the country rankings are reliable. The last four digits are decoration.

    Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Live Population Clock collects when you visit this website, why it is collected, how long it is kept, and the choices available to you. It applies to livepopulationclock.com and to no other site, including any site you reach by following a link from here.

This website does not ask you to create an account, and it does not ask you for your name, postal address, telephone number, or date of birth. There is no login, no newsletter signup, and no comment system. If you never contact us, we hold no information that identifies you personally beyond the technical records described below.

Our web server keeps standard access logs. Each request records an IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the HTTP status code, the number of bytes served, the referring page where one is supplied, and the browser user agent string. These logs exist so that we can investigate errors, diagnose performance problems, and identify automated abuse such as scraping or denial of service attempts.

Server logs are retained for a limited operational period and are then deleted or overwritten. We do not use them to build profiles of individual visitors, and we do not attempt to link an IP address to a named person. We do not sell, rent, or trade log data.

This site displays advertising served through Google Ad Manager. Google and its advertising partners may set and read cookies or similar identifiers in your browser, and may collect information about your visit for the purpose of selecting and measuring advertisements. That processing is carried out by Google under its own privacy policy, over which we have no control and into which we have no visibility.

You can review Google's practices, and the controls Google offers, at the Google Privacy and Terms site. Depending on your location you may also see a consent prompt supplied by Google before personalised advertising is enabled. Your response to that prompt is handled by Google, not by us.

We do not run our own analytics platform, we do not operate tracking pixels of our own, and we do not embed social media widgets. The only third party code loaded by this page is the Google advertising tag and a web font served by Google Fonts.

Population data displayed on this site is downloaded by our server on a schedule and stored as a static file. Those downloads are made by us, not by your browser, so visiting this page does not disclose your visit to the United Nations or to Our World in Data.

The counter, the country table, the region filters and the search box all run entirely inside your browser. Nothing you type into the search box is transmitted anywhere, and no record is kept of which countries or regions you look at.

If you send us an email, we receive your email address, whatever you choose to write, and any information contained in the message headers. We use that only to respond to you and to keep a record of the correspondence. We do not add correspondents to marketing lists.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal information relating to you, including rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, and objection. If you wish to exercise a right, write to us at the address in the footer and describe what you are asking for. We will respond within the period required by the law that applies to you.

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy as the site changes. The version published on this page is the current one, and continued use of the site after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy. Substantive changes will be reflected in the text rather than announced separately.

    Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store, so that information can be recalled on a later request. Related technologies, including local storage, session storage, and pixel tags, do a similar job by different means. This policy covers all of them.

Live Population Clock sets no cookies of its own. The counter on this page does not need to remember you between visits. It reads a single static data file and does the arithmetic in your browser, so there is no state worth storing and nothing we need to identify you by.

The region filters, the search box and the sort order are held in memory for as long as the page is open and are forgotten the moment you close the tab. None of that is written to your device.

Cookies are however set by the advertising service used on this site. Google Ad Manager, together with the advertising partners it works with, may store identifiers in your browser to select advertisements, to limit how often you see the same advertisement, and to measure whether an advertisement was viewed.

These advertising cookies are set by Google's domains rather than ours. We cannot read them, we cannot modify them, and we cannot delete them on your behalf. Their names, contents, and lifetimes are determined by Google and change from time to time without reference to us.

Depending on your location, you may be shown a consent prompt before personalised advertising is enabled. That prompt is supplied and recorded by Google. If you decline, Google may still serve advertisements, but on a contextual rather than personalised basis, and may still set cookies that are strictly necessary for fraud prevention and frequency control.

This page also loads a web font from Google Fonts. Font requests are not used for advertising and do not set advertising cookies, but the request does reach a Google server and carries the ordinary technical information any web request carries.

Every current browser lets you view stored cookies, delete them individually or in bulk, block third party cookies as a class, and clear everything when you close the window. These controls sit in the privacy or content settings section of your browser.

Blocking cookies will not stop the population counter from working. The figures, the country table, the sorting, the filters and the search all run without any stored state. Blocking may affect which advertisements appear, or whether advertisements appear at all.

Browsers may also send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. Support for these signals varies between advertising vendors and between jurisdictions, and we cannot guarantee how a given signal will be interpreted by a third party serving advertisements on this page.

We do not use cookies to build advertising audiences of our own, we do not participate in cross site tracking arrangements outside the advertising service described here, and we do not share visitor lists with anyone, because we do not maintain any.

If a future change to this site introduces cookies set by us directly, this policy will be updated to describe them, what they are for, and how long they last, before those cookies are used.

    Legal Notice

Live Population Clock is published by West Coast Media Solutions Inc., a company incorporated federally in Canada under the Canada Business Corporations Act. Correspondence may be sent to the email address shown in the footer of this page.

The figures presented on this site are derived from published estimates and projections produced by the United Nations, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division, in World Population Prospects 2024, medium variant.

United Nations data is retrieved through Our World in Data and is used under the Creative Commons Attribution licence. Attribution is given in the footer and in the structured data attached to this page. Our World in Data is a project of Global Change Data Lab and is not affiliated with this site.

Figures shown are the medium variant, the projection the United Nations treats as its central case. Other variants exist and produce materially different long range results.

Neither the United Nations nor Our World in Data has reviewed, approved, or sponsored this site. References to those organisations identify the origin of the underlying data and nothing more.

The live figures shown here are interpolations calculated by this site between published annual reference values. They are not published by the United Nations at second resolution, and they should not be attributed to it as though they were.

Population estimates are inherently uncertain. Census coverage, survey quality, civil registration completeness, and migration measurement all vary widely between countries, and the United Nations revises its series as new information arrives. Figures on this page will change when the underlying source is revised.

Milestone projections shown on this page extend the current rate of growth forward. They are illustrative arithmetic rather than a forecast, and small changes in fertility or mortality move them by years.

Nothing on this site constitutes professional, legal, financial, medical, or policy advice. The data is presented for general information and public interest. Anyone relying on population figures for research, publication, regulatory, or commercial purposes should obtain them from the original source and read the accompanying methodology.

Country and area names, groupings, regional assignments, and boundaries follow the conventions of the source that supplied the figure. Those conventions do not represent any opinion by West Coast Media Solutions Inc. concerning the legal status of any country, territory, city, area, or its authorities, or the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries.

    Accessibility

This site is built to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, magnification, keyboard only navigation, speech input, or high contrast display modes. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA.

The page is written as structured HTML with a single main heading, meaningful section headings in order, and landmark regions for the header, main content, and footer. A skip link at the top of the page moves keyboard focus directly to the counter.

Every interactive control on this page is a real button, link, or form field, reachable and operable by keyboard alone. Focus is visible at all times, using an outline that meets contrast requirements against the page background rather than relying on colour alone.

Colour is used on this page to group countries by world region. It is never the only way that information is conveyed. Every region filter carries its name in text beside the colour, every country row states its region for assistive technology, and every figure carries a written label.

Sortable column headings expose their state to assistive technology as well as showing a direction arrow, and the region filters report whether they are currently active.

The counter updates continuously. It is deliberately not announced to assistive technology on every tick, because a value that changes several times a second would make the page unusable with a screen reader. The surrounding text states the figures and explains what they mean in a form that reads cleanly.

If your system is set to reduce motion, the page respects that preference. The pulse beside the counter stops animating, smooth scrolling is disabled, and transitions are suppressed. The counter itself still updates, since it is the content of the page rather than decoration.

Text is set in relative units and scales with your browser or operating system font size. The layout reflows to a single column on small screens and remains readable at 200 percent zoom without horizontal scrolling of the main content. The country table scrolls horizontally on narrow screens, which is the accepted pattern for wide tabular data.

Colour combinations on this page were chosen to meet or exceed the contrast ratios required at level AA for body text, headings, and interface controls. Large display figures also meet the large text threshold.

The legal documents on this page open in a native dialog element. Focus moves into the dialog when it opens, is contained while it is open, returns to the button that opened it when it closes, and the Escape key closes it.

Some limitations remain. Advertising is supplied by a third party and its markup is outside our control, so we cannot guarantee that every advertisement meets the same standard as the rest of the page. Where we can influence placement, advertisements are kept out of the reading order of the main content.

Accessibility is treated as ongoing work rather than a finished state. The site is reviewed as it changes, and issues found are fixed rather than documented and left.

If you encounter a barrier on this site, please tell us. Write to the address in the footer, describe the page and what happened, and mention the assistive technology and browser you were using. We will respond and we will fix what we can.

    Terms of Use

By using livepopulationclock.com you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. These terms apply to all visitors, whether or not you contact us.

The site is provided free of charge for general information and public interest. Access is offered on an as is and as available basis. We do not guarantee that the site will be available without interruption, that it will be free of errors, or that defects will be corrected within any particular period.

Population figures on this site are estimates and projections produced by a third party, presented with interpolation applied by us. They are not a count of living people and must not be treated as one. We make no warranty as to their accuracy, completeness, currency, or fitness for any purpose.

You may read, link to, quote briefly with attribution, and share the pages of this site. You may not copy the site wholesale, mirror it, or republish substantial portions of its original text, design, or code without written permission.

Automated access is permitted within reason. Crawling that respects our robots file and does not degrade service for other visitors is acceptable. Scraping at a rate that burdens the server, or that is designed to reconstruct our data files in bulk, is not.

The underlying population data is published by the United Nations under its own terms and is redistributed by Our World in Data under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. If you intend to reuse the data itself rather than our presentation of it, obtain it from those sources and comply with their licences, which are identified in the legal notice.

You agree not to use this site to break any law, to interfere with its operation, to attempt unauthorised access to any part of it or to the server that hosts it, or to introduce malicious code of any kind.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, West Coast Media Solutions Inc. is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on anything published here, including indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, and including loss of profit, revenue, data, or goodwill.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the minimum permitted by the applicable law. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law.

This site contains advertising supplied by a third party. We do not select individual advertisements, we do not endorse advertised products or services, and we are not a party to any transaction between you and an advertiser.

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of this site at any time, including the data shown, the source used, and these terms. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable in that province. Any dispute arising out of or relating to the site or these terms falls to the courts of that province.
